the Saga Begins
At about 5:30 alarm clocks all around Westenbrook went off for the first time all summer. It was Monday, August 27th and teenagers were waking up for the first day of school. For Kevin Smith it was one of the worst sounds he had ever heard. Kevin in particular had never been one to enjoy school. In a dazed state he begrudgingly climbed out of bed and went to take a cold shower. The cold spray shocked him into a more awake state, but not a more pleasant one. After his shower he went to go get changed. Unfortunately he couldn't find a clean pair of jeans and spent a couple minutes searching. He finally settled on a pair of slighlt worn and faded jean and a plain black T-shirt. He then put on his sneakers which were clearly standing the tests of time poorly. Kevin then went into the bathroom to brush his teeth without much enthusiasm. He then tried to comb his messy brown hair, but gave up because it was just too stubborn. Once he was done he took a quick look at the clock. It was 6:25, no time for breakfast. Kevin grabbed his backpack, the same backpack he'd been using for the past five years and ran out the door to the bus stop.
When he got to the street corner where the bus stop was he heard a familiar voice calling his name. "Hey Kevin!" he heard her sing song voice shout. A tallish girl quickly walked up side walk to meet him. Her long blond hair had settled peacefully on her shoulders as she walked up to him. "How was your summer?" Sarah asked with a smile.
The traces of a grin appeared at the corners of Kevins mouth. "It was kind of boring, I just sat at home and watched TV most of the time. How about yours?" he added, he was still glum, but he seemed a little less so now that she was here.
"Mine was pretty good. My parents took us to Europe. We went everywhere; Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, and a few others too. My favorite was France, I loved the Louvre." Sarah had a cheerful air about her as she went into detail about all she saw, but she was very keen to pick up on people's thoughts, and she had realised Kevin hadn't changed from his melancholy attitude of last year.
Kevin listened attentively, even as other kids arrived at the bus stop. She discribed it in such detail he felt as though he was there. He loved looking at art, TV, anything but people. In his cynical way Kevin had decided that, for the most part, people were hurtful petty creatures. Although he did get along with a couple people, like Sarah.
"So Kevin, what does your schedule look like?" Sarah asked, drawing a copy of hers out of her pocketbook. Kevin leafed through his binder until he found it and pulled it out. They compared their schedules and found that they had english, lunch, and European History in common. The bright yellow school bus finally arrived at their stop and as they climbed aboard everybody wondered what the next year would hold for them.
